Spartans Fall Short In Conference Contest Against Sabres



COLD SPRING — The ROCORI Spartans returned home to host the Sartell Sabres in a rescheduled Central Lakes Conference contest on May 19 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.


A night after ROCORI topped Sartell on the road in Sartell to extend their winning streak to five in a row, the Spartans fell at home to the Sabres 6-4 to split the season series against the conference opponent.


Sartell jumped out to an early lead against ROCORI in the game, carrying a 6-1 advantage into the fifth inning after tallying two runs in each of the first, second and fourth frames. ROCORI answered back with two runs in the fifth inning and one run in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't quite complete the comeback.


At the plate, Jack Spanier finished 3-for-3 with three runs cored and Beck Loesch added a 3-for-4 with two RBI performance to lead the Spartans. Jack Boos tallied one hit and drove in two runs and John Kinzer, Grady Notch and Hunter Fuchs each posted one hit for ROCORI.


On the mound, Fuchs pitched the first three innings while giving up three hits, two earned runs, one walk and striking out one. Brady Weber threw the final four innings in relief, gibing up three hits, one earned run, no walks and recording two strikeouts.


With the loss, ROCORI fell to 11-6 overall on the season and 8-4 in Central Lakes Conference play. Next up on the schedule for the Spartans is matchup against Little Falls on Tuesday, May 23 in Little Falls.
