Spartans Storm Past Sauk Rapids For CLC Win

COLD SPRING — ROCORI opened up the final week of the regular season on May 19 with a Central Lakes Conference battle against Sauk Rapids in Cold Spring.
The Spartans opened the game up strong once again, going on to cruise to a 10-2 victory at the Cold Spring Baseball Park. ROCORI brought home three runs in the first inning and led 6-0 through three innings, adding four more runs in the fifth frame to put the game out of reach.
The Spartans totaled 11 hits as a team in the win, with Noah Olmscheid finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored, Cooper Notch bringing home three runs with two hits, Zander Folkerts adding two hits and two runs scored and Nolan VanLoy going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. Blake Kelly added one hit, one run and two RBI, while Cal Heying and Reece Kalla each recorded one hit and one run.
VanLoy not only provided a boost at the plate with yet another home run, but he also earned a complete-game win on the mound, pitching all seven innings while giving up six hits, two runs, two walks and striking out five.
With the win, ROCORI improves to 12-8 overall on the season and have now won four straight. The Spartans, who also moved to 4-6 in CLC play with the victory, will hit the road to play Sartell on May 20 before hosting Little Falls in the regular season finale on May 21.
