Spartans Close Out Regular Season With Loss To Flyers

COLD SPRING — Just like that, the end of the regular season is upon us. The ROCORI Spartans concluded the regular season with a matchup against Little Falls on May 21 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.


In the battle between section opponents, Little Falls jumped out in front early and pulled away late, coming away with a 13-11 win in Cold Spring.


After falling behind by seven after the top of the first inning, ROCORI responded with three runs in the bottom of the first, two in the second and six in the fourth, but the Flyers made a late-game push and regained the lead to steal the road win.


Leading the Spartans was Nolan VanLoy, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, Zander Folkerts, who went 1-for-4 with one run and two RBI, and Caleb Maddox, who brought home two runs and scored one. Cal Heying and Matteo Ruiz each added one hit and one RBI, while Noah Olmscheid posted a hit and RBI.


ROCORI had four pitchers take the mound in the game. Reece Kalla pitched the first 0.2 innings and gave up two earned runs, followed by Ruiz who tossed four innings and gave up two earned runs while striking out four. Grady Richards and Cal Heying rounded out the game in relief.


With the loss, ROCORI finishes the regular season with an overall record of 12-10. Next up for the Spartans is the start of the Section 8-3A Playoffs, which will begin Ma7 26.
