ROCORI Claims State 3A Consolation Championship

JORDAN — After narrowly falling to top-seeded Torino-Grace to open the Class 3A State Tournament, ROCORI moved into the consolation bracket, going on to take care of business in Jordan on June 12.
And to cap off a strong season and impressive postseason run that included just one loss, the Spartans concluded their time st state as the Class 3A Consolation Champions.
To open up play in the consolation bracket, ROCORI faced off against Delano in the consolation semifinals, taking down the Tigers 4-1.
With the win, the Spartans took on Grand Rapids in the consolation championship just hours later, coming away with a 2-1 victory to end the season with a trophy.
In the championship contest, Blake Kelly led the way at the plate, finishing a perfect 3-for-3. Nolan VanLoy and Noah Olmscheid each tallied one hit and one RBI, while Zander Folkerts and Caleb Maddox each added one hit.
Reece Kalla tossed the first 3.1 innings on the mound for ROCORI, giving up four hits, one run and one walk. Cal Heying threw the final 3.2 innings and picked up the win, giving up just one hit, no runs, no walks and striking out three.
Following the postseason run that ended in ROCORI’s 10th state tournament appearance, the Spartans end the season with a record of 18-11.
