Spartans Bounce Back Strong With Win Over Lakers


COLD SPRING -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team remained at home for the second straight night on Friday, April 23, playing host to the Detroit Lakes Lakers at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.


After falling for the first time this season the night prior, ROCORI battled Detroit Lakes in a meeting between Section 8-3A teams, responding with a 10-4 victory at home.


In the game, the Spartans opened the game out on a high note, grabbing five runs in the first inning to take a 5-3 lead going into the second. ROCORI added three more runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to total 10 runs on 11 hits.


Leading the way for the Spartans at the plate was Brady Blattner with two hits and three RBI. Brady Linn went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI, Luke Humbert and Peyton Randall each had one hit and one RBI and Jayden Phillippi, Jack Spanier, Connor Clark, Carter Thelen, Cole Fuchs and Joel Sowada each tacked one hit in the game.


Fuchs got the start on the mound for ROCORI and pitched five innings to pick up the win. Over those five innings, Fuchs gave up six hits, three earned runs, just one walk and struck out two. Blattner came in to pitch two shutout innings in relief, giving up just two hits with no walks and three strikeouts.


With the win, ROCORI improved to 3-1 overall on the season and remains at 2-1 in Central Lakes Conference play. The Spartans improved to 1-0 in Section 8-3A play this year as a result of the victory.


The Spartans will return to action on Tuesday, April 27 when they host Bemidji in a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader at the Cold Spring Baseball Park. The first game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. in Cold Spring, with the second game to follow shortly after.
