Spartans Take Down Lakers To Advance in Section Playoffs

COLD SPRING — After defeating Willmar in the opening round of the Section 8-3A Playoffs on Tuesday, the top-seeded ROCORI Spartans welcomed the fourth-seeded Detroit Lakes Lakers to the Cold Spring Baseball Park in the second round of the section playoffs.

Much like the first game of the postseason, ROCORI once again took care of business while defeating Detroit Lakes 5-3 to advance to the semifinal round of the Section 8-3A bracket.

After Detroit Lakes got on the board first in the top of the first inning, ROCORI answered with one run in each of the second, third and fourth innings and plated two in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.

At the plate, Jack Boos finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored while Beck Loesch and John Kinzer each plated one run along with one hit for ROCORI. Jack Spanier, Brady Schafer, Brady Weber and Hunter Fuchs each added one hit in the win.

On the mound, Evan Acheson pitched the first six innings and gave up just three hits, no earned runs, three walks and struck out eight to get the win. Weber threw the final inning in relief, giving up one hit, no earned runs, no walks and striking out one.

With the win, ROCORI advances in the winners' bracket of the Section 8-3A tournament and will face off against No. 2 Alexandria at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud. View the full Section 8-3A Playoff bracket here.
