Spartans Take Down Lakers 7-1 In Section Battle

DETROIT LAKES — The ROCORI Spartans baseball team kicked off a busy week with a road contest against the Detroit Lakes Lakers on Monday, May 6, a rescheduled game earlier this season that was postponed due to rain.

In the showdown between two Section 8-3A teams, ROCORI breezed past Detroit Lakes 7-1 at Detroit Lakes High School.

The Spartans jumped out to a lead early, tallying four runs in the first inning and one in the second to take a 5-0 advantage. ROCORI didn't look back from there, adding one run in the fifth and sixth innings while holding the Lakers to just one run on four hits.

Leading the way for ROCORI at the plate was Jack Boos and Jacob Stalboerger, who each recorded two hits, two runs scored and one RBI. Jace Griffen went 2-for-3 with one run scored, Tyler Prom added two hits, Max Fredin tallied one hit and one run scored and Kaden Rausch drove in two runs.

On the mound, Rausch went the distance to earn a complete-game win, giving up just four hits, one run, no walks and striking out five for the Spartans.

With the win, ROCORI improves to 5-5 overall on the season while remaining 4-4 in Central Lakes Conference action. Next up for the Spartans is a CLC battle against Brainerd at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 in Brainerd.
