Spartans Sweep Otters in CLC Doubleheader

COLD SPRING — After rain put a damper on the start of the week, ROCORI hit the field on Tuesday, April 28 for a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader against Fergus Falls in Cold Spring.
In the end, the Spartans took care of business at the Cold Spring Baseball Park, completing a sweep of the doubleheader.
In the first game, ROCORI shut down Fergus Falls, jumping out in front early and coming away with a 4-0 win. The Spartans plated one run in each the first and the third innings, pulling away with two more runs in the fourth frame.
Cal Heying led the way at the plate in Game 1, going 2-for-3 with a home run. Caleb Maddox, Reeca Kalla and Nolan VanLoy all added one hit and one RBI each, with Zander Folkerts adding the other Spartans hit.
VanLoy tossed a complete-game shutout to grab the win, giving up just five hits, two walks and striking out six in 94 pitches.
To round out the doubleheader, ROCORI held off a late-game comeback attempt by Fergus Falls to complete the sweep of the two games with a 7-5 victory. The Spartans jumped right out in front, plating four runs in the first inning, one in the third and two in the fifth, doing enough to get out in front of the Otters and hold them off in the end.
Noah Olmscheid joined the home run momentum with a homer of his own, leading ROCORI at the plate while finishing 1-for-3 with three RBI. Max Fredin went a perfect 3-for-3 and Logan Adams went 2-for-2 for the Spartans, with Zander Folkerts adding two runs scored and one RBI.
Fredin tossed the first 5.2 innings for the Spartans to get the win, giivng up four earned runs, no walks and striking out three. Reece Kalla tossed the final 1.1 innings, giving up two hits and no runs.
With the pair of victories, ROCORI improves to 4-3 overall on the season and 2-3 in CLC play. Next up for the Spartans is another doubleheader on April 30, this time against Detroit Lakes at Detroit Lakes City Park.
