Spartans Sweep Flyers in Central Lakes Conference Doubleheader


COLD SPRING -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team remained undefeated on the season after taking two games against a Central Lakes Conference opponent on Tuesday, April 26 in Cold Spring.


The Spartans swept the Fergus Falls Flyers in a conference doubleheader at the Cold Spring Baseball Park, taking Game 1 by a score of 9-2 and backing that up with an 11-0 victory in Game 2.


In Game 1, ROCORI exploded for five runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning to jump out to a lead and not look back. With nine runs on 10 hits, the Spartans gave up just two runs on five hits.


Beck Loesch went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI and Brady Blattner went 2-for-3 with one RBI to lead ROCORI at the plate. Peyton Randall added one hit and two RBI, Jack Spanier had one hit, two runs scored and one RBI and Sam Zeiher went 2-for-2 for ROCORI.


On the mound, Blattner pitched five innings to grab the win, giving up five hits, one earned run and three walks with two strikeouts. Brady Weber pitched the final two innings, giving up no hits, no runs and no walks.


In Game 2, ROCORI rounded out the sweep with a five-inning shutout victory over Fergus Falls, tallying 11 runs on 10 hits while giving up just six hits on the other end. The Spartans opened the game up with three runs in the first and second innings, adding four runs in the third inning and one run in the fifth inning.


At the plate, Loesch went 2-for-2 with two doubles, three runs scored and one RBI, Cole Fuchs went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI and Joel Sowada, Spanier and Brady Shafer added one hit and two RBI each.


Hunter Fuchs threw a complete game shutout for the Spartans, earning the win while giving up six hits, one walk and striking out four.


With the pair of wins, ROCORI improved to 4-0 in the Central Lakes Conference and 4-0 overall on the year. The Spartans will hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to take on Sartell on Thursday, April 28 at 5 p.m. in Sartell.
