Spartans Fall To Cardinals In Home Opener

COLD SPRING — The ROCORI Spartans baseball team took the field at home for the first time of the season on Tuesday, April 15, hosting the Alexandria Cardinals in a Central Lakes Conference contest.
ROCORI had success offensively with seven hits as a team, but couldn't quite match Alexandria while falling 10-3 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
The Spartans plated one run in each of the third, fifth and sixth innings, with two players accounting for all three of those runs batted in. Tyler Prom finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Cal Heying recorded one RBI to lead ROCORI at the plate. Noah Olmscheid added two hits and Caleb Maddox tallied one hit and two runs.
Jake Stalboerger got the start on the mound for the Spartans, pitching the first four innings while giving up five hits, three runs, two walks and striking out four. Nolan VanLoy pitched the final three innings in relief, giving up four hits, three earned runs, two walks and striking out three.
With the loss, ROCORI fell to 1-1 on the season and 1-1 in CLC play. Next up for the Spartans is a conference battle against the St. Cloud Crush on Thursday, April 17 at 6 p.m. at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud.
