Spartans Fall to Cardinals In Conference Battle


COLD SPRING -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball kicked off the final week of the 2022 regular season on Monday, May 23 while welcoming in the Willmar Cardinals to Cold Spring.


In the first of four home games before section playoffs begin, ROCORI fell to Willmar 7-0 in a Central Lakes Conference contest at the Cold Spring Baseball Park. The Cardinals jumped ahead in the game in the third inning, scoring five runs in the top half of the frame while adding one more run in the fifth inning and one more in the seventh inning.


Leading the Spartans at the plate were Jack Spanier and Brady Blattner, each of which finished with one hit in the game. On the mound, Evan Acheson started the game for ROCORI and pitched the first four innings, giving up just four hits while recording nine strikeouts. Brady Weber threw the final three innings in relief, giving up two earned runs and no walks with one strikeout.


With the loss, ROCORI fell to 9-7 overall on the season and dropped to 6-6 in conference play with three regular season games remaining. The Spartans return to the field on Tuesday, May 24 when they play host to Delano at 5 p.m. at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
