Spartans Explode For 24 Runs In Win

COLD SPRING — ROCORI opened up a jam-packed week of games on May 4 with a nonconference showdown against Becker in Cold Spring. And boy, did the Spartans open things up with a bang.
ROCORI exploded for 24 runs on 16 hits against Becker, taking down the Bulldogs 24-13 in six innings at the Cold Spring Baseball Park. The Spartans opened the game with eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, adding five more in the second, six in the fourth, one in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to come to 24.
Nolan VanLoy went 4-for-6 with a home run, two doubles, five RBI and three runs scored while Cal Heying went 4-for-5 with a triple, five runs scored, three RBI and two steals to lead the Spartans at the plate. Caleb Maddox, Cooper Notch and Noah Olmscheid each drove in three runs, while Reece Kalla, Blake Kelly and Matteo Ruiz each drove in one run a piece.
Max Fredin tossed the first three innings to get the win for ROCORI, giving up four hits, three earned runs and striking out one. Grady Richards threw one inning in relief, giving up three hits, one earned run and no walks, while Ruiz rounded out the game with two innings in relief.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 7-4 overall and remain 2-3 in Central Lakes Conference play. Next up for ROCORI is a home game against Sartell on May 5, followed by road games in Sauk Rapids on May 7 and Willmar on May 8 before capping off the week with a battle against Paynesville on May 9 at St. John's University.
