Spartans Drops Close Contest to Crush In Cold Spring
COLD SPRING — A day after the game was postponed due to rain, the ROCORI Spartans and St. Cloud Crush took the field for a Central Lakes Conference battle on May 10 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
Behind a late spurt in the final inning, St. Cloud came from behind to take down ROCORI 4-2 in Cold Spring.
The Crush began the scoring the fourth inning, plating one run in the top half of the inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Spartans answered back shortly after, tallying two runs in the sixth inning to take a one-run advantage into the seventh frame. In the final inning, St. Cloud scored three runs to take the lead back and come away with the conference win.
At the plate, Hunter Heidgerken finished with one hit and one RBI while both Jack Spanier and Thad Lieser tallied a run and one hit for ROCORI. Evan Acheson and Blake Tylutki also added one hit a piece.
On the mound, Acheson pitched the first six innings while giving up just one hit, no earned runs and striking out nine while receiving a no-decision. Kaden Rausch pitched the final inning in relief, giving up two hits and one earned run.
With the loss, ROCORI drops to 6-4 overall and falls to 5-2 in Central Lakes Conference play this season. Next up for the Spartans is a CLC doubleheader against Brainerd on May 11.
