Spartans Drop CLC Battle Against Sabres

COLD SPRING — After a 24-run, 16-hit performance the night prior, the ROCORI Spartans remained at home on May 5 to host Sartell in a Central Lakes Conference contests.
ROCORI wasn't able to carry the offensive explosion into the battle against Sartell, falling to the Sabres 9-1 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park. The Spartans tallied their lone run in the fourth inning, with the Sabres posting one run in the fourth and eight in the sixth to jump out in front.
Cal Heying and Blake Kelly combined to record all four of ROCORI's hits in the game, with Heying posting two hits and one run and Kelly adding two hits as well. Max Fredin drove in the lone run of the game for the Spartans.
Nolan VanLoy threw the first 5.2 innings for ROCORI, giving up seven hits, one earned run and striking out three. Logan Adams threw 0.1 innings and Grady Richards tossed one shutout inning in relief.
With the loss, the Spartans fall to 7-5 overall on the season and drop to 2-4 in Central Lakes Conference play. ROCORI will now hit the road to face Sauk Rapids on May 7 and Willmar on May 8 before capping off the busy week with a battle against Paynesville on May 9 at St. John's University.
