ROCORI Splits Road-and-Home CLC Doubleheader

After weather resulted in a shift of schedules, the ROCORI Spartans hosted a road-and-home doubleheader on Thursday, May 22 in both Sartell and Cold Spring.


ROCORI opened up the day by taking the road to face Sartell at St. Cloud Orthopedic Field in Sartell, a game that resulted in extra innings with the Sabres coming out on top 3-2 in eight innings.


In that game, Gabe Sauza went 2-for-3 with one RBI, Max Fredin went 2-for-3 with one run scored and Noah Olmscheid drove in a run. Caleb Maddox added one hit and one run while Cal Heying tallied one hit and one steal for ROCORI.


Jake Stalboerger threw the first six innings on the mound to earn a no-decision, giving up five hits, two runs, two walks and striking out seven. Grady Richards pitched the final 1.1 innings in relief, giving up two hits and one run.


The conclude the doubleheader, the Spartans raced back home to Cold Spring while hosting Fergus Falls in the final game of the regular season. Thanks to a three-run first inning, ROCORI came away with a 4-2 win at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.


Noah Olmscheid and Tyler Prom each had one hit and one RBI, while Max Fredin finished 2-for-2 and both Caleb Maddox and Reece Kalla notched one hit and one run scored.


Nolan VanLoy started the game on the mound and grabbed the win, pitching 6.2 innings and giving up four hits, no earned runs and striking out five. Kalla got the save, getting the final out of the game.


After a split of the doubleheader, ROCORI improved to 13-6 overall and 8-4 in the Central Lakes Conference with one game remaining. The regular-season finale will come against section opponent Little Falls at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23.
