ROCORI Sweeps Fergus Falls In CLC Doubleheader



FERGUS FALLS -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team opened up a new week in the 2021 regular season with a pair of victories over a conference opponent on the road.


ROCORI hit the road to battle Fergus Falls on Tuesday, May 11 in a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader in Fergus Falls, with the Spartans departing with a sweep of the doubleheader over the Otters.


ROCORI's offense exploded en route to a 17-8 victory in Game 1, later earning a sweep of the pair of contests behind a 6-5 win in Game 2.


To kick off the doubleheader, the Spartans tallied a total of 17 runs on 17 hits in Game 1 while scoring four runs in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.


Leading the way for ROCORI at the plate was Tanner Rausch, who went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBI, and Cam Miller, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. Connor Clark, Jayden Philippi, Jack Spanier, Carter Thelen and Brady Linn all added two hits, while Chance Berger and Sam Zeiher each drove in two runs on one hit.


Brady Blattner pitched the first 5 1/3 innings, giving up eight hits, four runs, no walks and striking out three to pick up the win. Clark threw 1 2/3 innings in relief for the Spartans.


In Game 2, ROCORI walked off in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal the second and final game of the doubleheader. Cam Miller drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to push the Spartans to a 6-5 victory.


At the plate, Philippi went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Rausch went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Miller went 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI for ROCORI. On the mound, Linn threw all seven innings for the Spartans, giving up three earned runs, one walk and recording five strikeouts to grab the win.


With the sweep of the doubleheader, ROCORI improved to 6-3 in Central Lakes Conference action this season, while improving to 7-5 overall on the year. The Spartans will remain on the road this week when they travel to face Alexandria on Thursday, May 11 before wrapping up the week's action on Friday, May 14 at Little Falls.
