ROCORI Sweeps Doubleheader, Extends Winning Streak To Five Straight



SAUK RAPIDS — The ROCORI Spartans hit the road to kick off the new week of the regular season while taking on the Sauk Rapids Storm in a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader on Tuesday, May 2.


Behind a strong showing from the Spartans offense matched by solid pitching performances on the mound, ROCORI swept Sauk Rapids at Bob Cross Field in Sauk Rapids to extend its winning straight to five in a row.


The Spartans stepped up late in Game 1 of the doubleheader to come away with a 7-1 victory, following it up with an impressive 17-run showing in a 17-5 victory in Game 2.


In the first game, ROCORI scored two runs in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to break a 1-1 tie and step on the gas for the win. Leading the way at the plate was Jack Spanier who finished 2-for-4 with a home run, run scored and RBI, Logan Bauer who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored and Evan Acheson with two hits and two runs.


On the mound, Hunter Fuchs threw the first six innings to grab the win, giving up four hits, no earned runs, two walks and striking out seven. Bauer pitched final inning in relief, a shutout performance while giving up one hit and striking out all three batters faced.


In Game 2, ROCORI jumped out early and never looked back, scoring eight runs in the first inning, three runs in the second inning and six runs in the third to take the game via the 10-run rule in five innings.


At the plate, Spanier hit his second home run of the doubleheader while finishing 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. Brady Schafer also homered in the game, going 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three RBI. Acheson added two hits, three runs scored and three RBI, and Beck Loesch went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI for the Spartans, who finished with her 14 hits as a team.


Loesch got the win on the mound, pitching the first 2 2/3 innings while giving up six hits, two earned runs, one walk and striking out five. Hunter Heidgerken threw the final 2 1/3 innings in relief, giving up just two hits, one run, three walks and striking out three.


With the pair of victories, ROCORI has won five straight to bring its record to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the Central Lakes Conference. Next up on the schedule for the Spartans is a conference showdown with Willmar on Thursday, May 4 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
