ROCORI Opens Homestand With Loss To Sartell


COLD SPRING -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team opened an upcoming stretch of home games on Wednesday, May 18 when they welcomed the Sartell Sabres into Cold Spring.


The Spartans ended up dropping the Central Lakes Conference contest at the Cold Spring Baseball Park, with the Sabres pulling out a 9-3 victory.


In the game, ROCORI kicked off the scoring in the conference battle, scoring two runs in the first inning and one run in the second inning to take an early lead. Sartell then answered with one run in the second inning, two in the third inning, one in the fifth inning and five in the sixth inning to retake the lead from the Spartans.


Beck Loesch went 2-for-3 with one RBI and Brady Schafer went 2-for-2 with a double, while Peyton Randall and Joel Sowada each drove in one run with one hit to lead ROCORI at the plate. Jack Spanier went 1-for-4 with a double and one run scored, and Cole Fuchs and Thad Lieser each added one hit a piece.


Hunter Fuchs got the start on the hill for the Spartans, pitching the first 5 1/3 innings. Tyler Lardy pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief, while Brady Weber rounded out the game with one shutout inning on the mound.


With the loss, ROCORI drops to 7-6 overall on the season and falls to 6-5 in Central Lakes Conference action. The Spartans will try and bounce back on Saturday, May 21 when they take on Mahtomedi at 1 p.m. at St. John's University.
