ROCORI Jumps Out Early In Win Over Albany

ST. MARTIN — The ROCORI Spartans continued on in the home stretch of the regular season on May 14 with an evening game in St. Martin taking on Albany in a section showdown.


From the first pitch, ROCORI jumped out ahead of Albany, plating six runs in the top of the first inning while adding one more in the second and four in the third to jump out to an 11-0 lead. After the Huskies battled back a bit with four runs in the bottom of the third and two more in the fifth and seventh innings, the Spartans held off any form of comeback to come away victorious, 13-8.


ROCORI concluded the game with 12 team hits, led by Caleb Maddox who went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, two triples and one RBI and Max Fredin who went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Nolan VanLoy, Blake Kelly and Cooper Notch all added two hits a piece, with VanLoy and Kelly each driving in two runs and Notch bringing home one.


Reece Kalla tossed the first five innings to get the win for the Spartans, giving up four earned runs and striking out seven. Matteo Ruiz threw the final two innings in relief, giving up two hits, two runs and striking out three.


With the win, ROCORI improves to 9-8 overall on the season and remains at 3-6 in Central Lakes Conference play. Next up for the Spartans is battle against Red Wing on Alumni Night on May 15 in Cold Spring before Bryce Day at 4 p.m. on May 16 in Cold Spring.
