ROCORI Falls Short In Pair Of Weekend Games

The ROCORI Spartans had a pair of contests over the weekend, putting a bow on packed week of games that included six games in a week-long span.
The Spartans hit the road on May 8, taking on Willmar in a Central Lakes Conference battle in Willmar. In that contest, ROCORI fell short in a pitchers' duel, 3-1
ROCORI got on the board first in the game, scoring its lone run in the top of the third inning. Willmar evened things up in the bottom of that inning, later adding two runs in the fifth to create enough room to come out victorious.
Caleb Maddox, Cooper Notch, Blake Kelly and Reece Kalla each tallied a hit for ROCORI, with Kelly scoring the lone run that was credited to Nolan VanLoy who had the lone RBI.
Max Fredin threw all six innings for the Spartans, giving up just three hits, three runs, one walk and striking out three.
To conclude the weekend on May 9, ROCORI faced off against Paynesville in a battle at St. John's University. The Spartans came up short in that game as well, falling 8-3.
ROCORI once again struck first in the game, coring two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Paynesville, however, tallied two runs in the third and five more in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
Noah Olmscheid went 1-for-2 with one run scored, one triple and one RBI to lead ROCORI at the plate. Cal Heying, Cooper Notch, Grady Richards and Max Fredin each added one hit a piece.
Logan Adams threw the first three innings for the Spartans, giving up five hits and walking two. Matteo Ruiz pitched three innings in relief, giivng up four hits, one earned run and striking out one. Grady Richards rounded out the game, pitching one scoreless inning.
With the pair of losses, ROCORI dropped to 8-7 overall on the season and now sit at 3-5 in Central Lakes Conference action. Next up for the Spartans is a CLC battle against a team they just faced, Willmar, on May 12 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
