ROCORI Drops Conference Showdown In Alexandria


ALEXANDRIA -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team kicked off a new week in the 2022 season by hitting the road to face the Alexandria Cardinals on Tuesday, May 17.


In the game, ROCORI ended up falling to Alexandria, dropping the Central Lakes Conference game by a score of 6-0 at Knute Nelson Field.


The Cardinals jumped out to a lead in the first inning of the conference contest, scoring three runs in the bottom of the opening frame. Alexandria added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and held the Spartans to just two hits through seven innings.


At the plate, Joel Sowada recorded both hits for ROCORI, leading the team while going 2-for-2. On the mound, Cole Fuchs started the game and pitched the first five innings for the Spartans. Evan Acheson pitched the final inning of relief, giving up just one hit, no runs and one walk while striking out two.


With the loss, ROCORI falls to 6-4 in the Central Lakes Conference and 7-5 overall on the season. The Spartans will return to the field on Wednesday, May 18 when they begin a stretch of home games to round out the regular season while facing the Sartell Sabres at 5 p.m. at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
