ROCORI Comes Back to Top St. Thomas Academy in Extras

COLLEGEVILLE — After having a game postponed due to rain to start the month of May, the ROCORI Spartans opened up the final month of the regular season Saturday, May 3 with a nonconference contest against St. Thomas Academy at St. John’s University.
The back-and-forth battle required extra innings, with ROCORI fighting back late in the game, forcing extras and breaking out in the final frame to take the game 9-7 in nine innings.
Down 4-2 entering the seventh inning, the Spartans came up clutch with two runs to even the game and force extra innings. In the top of the ninth, ROCORI’s offense broke out for five runs and held St. Thomas Acadamy in check in the bottom of the inning to take the game.

Leading the way for the Spartans was Caleb Maddox, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI, and Tyler Prom, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored. Zander Folkerts tallied two hits and two RBI, while Jace Griffin and Jake Stalboerger each added two hits and one RBI.
On the mound, Prom pitched the first five innings and earned a no-decision, giving up three earned runs, no walks and striking out two. Reece Kalla threw the final four innings in relief to pick up the win, giving up three hits, no earned runs, two walks and striking out three.
