ROCORI Baseball Prepares for Start of 2023 Season

The time of the year we’ve all been waiting for is finally among us. The snow has (finally) start to melt, the grass has started to appear, and that means it’s officially time for the 2023 ROCORI Spartans baseball season.

With practice continuing, the 2023 regular season is set to soon begin for ROCORI as it tries to put together a successful year capped off with a deep postseason run this summer.

ROCORI enters the new year after finishing the 2022 season with an overall record of 13-9 while finishing 7-6 in the Central Lakes Conference in route to a fifth-place finish in the conference. The Spartans earned themselves the third seed in the Section 8-3A Playoffs, winning one game against top-seeded Willmar before falling to Little Falls to end ROCORI's season.

On this year’s team, the Spartans will have a total of 13 seniors, eight juniors, 19 sophomores and 20 freshmen to round out the high school-level teams. The coaching staff for this season’s Spartans squad will look fairly similar to recent years, with the varsity team once again being led by head coach Jeff Illies, who will kick off his 18th season at the helm while entering with a record of 244-127 (66 percent) overall.

Along with Illies, the varsity team will be filled out with assistant coaches Aaron Schneider, Sean Terres, Greg Spanier, John "Boogs" Rausch, David Jonas and Andrew Allar Junior Varsity will be coached by Brady Leverington and Zach Barrett, ninth grade will be coached by Derek Ruff and Will Kleinschmidt, and the middle school level will be coached by Dustin Kremer, Zach Johnson, Logan Payne and Trevor Sawyer.
