Big First Inning Leads ROCORI Over Sartell


SARTELL -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team's hot streak in the second half of the regular season continued on Thursday, May 20 on the road against a Central Lakes Conference opponent.


Behind a five-run first inning, the Spartans took down Sartell 5-3 at St. Cloud Orthopedic Field in Sartell to claim their third straight win and sixth victory in the last seven games.


To lead the way at the plate for ROCORI, Jack Spanier went 2-for-4 with one run scored, Cam Miller went 2-for-3 with one RBI and Joel Sowada drove in two runs. Connor Clark went 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI and both Tanner Rausch and Carter Thelen pitched in with one hit a piece.


Nick Howen threw a complete-game gem on the mound for the Spartans to pick up the victory. In seven innings of work, Howen gave up nine hits, two earned runs, one walk and recorded one strikeout to lift ROCORI.


With the win, the Spartans improve to 8-4 in Central Lakes Conference action and jump to 10-6 overall on the year with a few games remaining before playoffs begin.


ROCORI will return to action over the weekend when it takes on St. Cloud Tech in a CLC doubleheader in St. Cloud on Saturday, May 22.
