Spartans Split Doubleheader With Cardinals


COLD SPRING -- The ROCORI Spartans baseball team split a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader with the Alexandria Cardinals on Friday night in Cold Spring.

The two conference opponents battled it out in a pair of games at the Cold Spring Baseball Park, with the Spartans winning the first game and the Cardinals taking the second game to split the doubleheader.

In Game 1, ROCORI opened the doubleheader up with a 4-2 victory over Alexandria, sparked by an offensive run in the second half of the game.

The Spartans opened things up with two runs in the fourth inning, followed up by tallying one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to come away with the victory.

Collin Eskew went 1-for-3 with a double, one run scored and one RBI and Brock Humbert went 1-for-2 with one RBI to lead the way for ROCORI at the plate.

Rudy Notch pitched the first six inning on the hill for the Spartans, giving up a total of six hits, one earned run, two walks along with six strikeouts. Brady Klehr pitched the final inning to pick up the save, giving up one hit, no runs, no walks and striking out two.

In Game 2, ROCORI fell to Alexandria 2-1 in a pitchers' duel, resulting in a split of the doubleheader.

Brock Humbert opened up the game on the mound for the Spartans, pitching four innings and giving up just five hits, one earned run, two walks and recording three strikeouts. Nolan Notch pitched two shutout innings in relief, giving up one hit and no walks.

Brady Klehr finished 2-for-3 and drove in ROCORI's lone run in the game to lead the way offensively. Jack Steil went 2-for-2 with one run scored, while Collin Eskew, Brock Humbert and Sam Distel each recorded one hit a piece for the Spartans.

With the split of the doubleheader, ROCORI moves to 4-4 in the Central Lakes Conference and 5-7 overall on the season.

Next up for the Spartans is a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader against Willmar on Tuesday, May 14 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park. The first game will start at 4 p.m., with the second game to follow shortly after.
