ROCORI Drops CLC Contest to Sartell


SARTELL -- The ROCORI Spartans Baseball team fell to Sartell in the final inning during a Central Lakes Conference contest on Thursday night in Sartell.

The Spartans ended up dropping the conference game to the Sabres 7-6 at St. Cloud Orthopedic Field in Sartell after the Sabres scored five runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning to come back and put together a walk-off victory.

ROCORI jumped out to early lead in the game, scoring one run in each of the first and third innings to take a 2-0 advantage. Sartell bounced back to even things up after scoring one run in the fourth and one run in the fifth inning.

In the top of the sixth, the Spartans broke the game open with four runs to move the game to a 6-2 contest. The Sabres ultimately ended up topping that with five runs in the bottom of the seventh to come away victorious.

Jack Steil went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI, Nolan Notch went 3-for-3 with one RBI and Brady Klehr went 2-for-4 with one RBI to lead ROCORI at the plate. Brady Linn finished 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI, while Collin Eskew, Dylan Rausch and Brock Humbert each added one hit.

Steil started the game on the mound for the Spartans and was tagged with the loss, pitching 6.2 innings. He gave up seven hits, five earned runs, two walks and struck out 11. Nolan Notch faced the final batter of the game in relief for ROCORI.

With the loss, the Spartans drop to 3-3 in the Central Lakes Conference and are now 4-6 overall on the season. Next up for ROCORI is a CLC game against Alexandria on Friday night.
