Rocori Beat New Ulm to Advance to Class 3A State Title Game


MINNEAPOLIS -- The Rocori Spartans are heading back to the state title game.

Rocori beat New Ulm 5-0 on Friday afternoon at Siebert Field in Minneapolis to advance to the Class 3A state championship game.

The Spartans were led in the semifinals matchup against the Eagles by Brandon Gill, who threw a complete-game shutout. Gill gave up five hits, three walks and struck out five.

Tylor Schroeder went 2-for-3 with one RBI to lead Rocori at the plate. Brady Klehr and Matthew Koshiol each tallied one hit and one RBI, while Gill also drove in one run.

The Spartans pulled away from New Ulm in the third inning, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third and one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings.

Rocori will take on top-seeded Mahtomedi for the Class 3A state title at 4 p.m. Saturday at Target Field in Minneapolis.

The Spartans are returning to Target Field and the state championship game for the first time since they were state runner-ups in 2013. Rocori has two state championships in program history, winning the first in 1992 and the second in 2010.
