Rocori Holds off Monticello for 2-1 Victory


FARMING -- The Rocori Spartans baseball team got back on track on Friday night with a win over Monticello.

The Spartans edged past the Magic 2-1 for a nonconference victory in Farming.

Rocori starting things off by tallying one run in the bottom of the third inning, while adding another in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Monticello got on the board with a run in the top of the seventh, attempting to make a comeback. The Spartans, however, were able to hold the Magic off for the win.

Rocori had one hit in the game, it coming by Jack Steil, who finished 1-for-2 with one run scored. Matthew Waletzko and Reed Ruegemer each were credited with one RBI for the Spartans.

Eli Emerson pitched 6.2 solid inning on the mound to grab the win. He gave up six hits, one run, two walks and struck out nine. Mason Primus pitched the final portion of the game for Rocori, shutting things down in relief.

With the win, the Spartans improved to 12-3 overall on the year, heading into the last few home games of the 2018 regular season.

Next up for Rocori is a nonconference game against Fridley at noon Saturday. That game will be played at the Cold Spring Baseball Park, Rocori's first game back at its home field this season.
