Rocori Falls to Willmar in CLC Doubleheader


WILLMAR -- The Rocori Spartans baseball team fell to Willmar in a pair of Central Lakes Conference games on Tuesday night.

Rocori dropped Game 1 of the doubleheader 5-3, before falling to Willmar in eight innings of Game 2, 3-2.

In Game 1, the Spartans scored three unanswered runs late in the game to try and complete a comeback, but ultimately fell short.

Dalton Thelen led Rocori at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with one RBI. Matthew Koshiol went 1-for-1 with one RBI, Tylor Schroeder went 1-for-3 with one run scored and Mason Primus, Jack Steil and Brady Klehr each added a hit.

Brandon Gill took the loss on the mound, giving up six hits, three earned runs, one walk and striking out six. Primus pitched two shutout innings in relief to end the game.

In Game 2, the Cardinals scored one run in the top of the eighth inning to grab the game in extra innings.

Matthew Waletzko went 2-for-2 with two RBI and Thelen finished 2-for-2 with one run scored to lead Rocori. Schroeder went 2-for-4 and Steil, Koshiol and Klehr each tallied a hit.

Rudy Notch took the loss in relief for the Spartans, pitching one inning and striking out two. Schroeder pitched seven innings and earned a no decision, giving up seven hits, two runs, no walks and striking out four.

With the pair of losses, Rocori falls to 7-3 in the Central Lakes Conference and 11-3 overall on the season.

Next up for the Spartans is a nonconference game against Monticello at 7 p.m. Friday in Farming.
