Spartans See Season End In Section 5-3A Playoffs


ST. CLOUD -- The Rocori Spartans baseball team saw their season come to a close on Tuesday morning at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud.

Rocori fell to St. Cloud Apollo 1-0 in the Section 5-3A playoffs, ending the Spartans' playoff run.

The game was a battle on the mound between Rocori's Brandon Gill and Apollo's Isaac Holthaus.

Gill took a complete-game loss for the Spartans, giving up three hits, one run and one walk. He struck out three Apollo batters in seven innings of work.

Holthaus pitched five shutout innings for the Eagles to get the win. He gave up four hits, one walk and struck out one. Peter Nelson came in and pitched the final two innings in relief for Apollo.

David Holbrook went 2-for-3 to lead Rocori at the plate. Jordan Barth went 1-for-3 and Sam Young went 1-for-2.

The Eagles, who scored the games lone run in the top of the fourth inning, were led by Tanner Blommer with one hit and one run scored.

With the season-ending loss, Rocori concludes the 2017 campaign with a record of 16-9. The 16 wins is tied for ninth most in school history.
