Emerson, Spartans Cruise To Win


MONTICELLO -- Eli Emerson and the Rocori Spartans baseball team cruised to a five-inning win over Monticello in the regular season finale Thursday night.

Emerson pitched a one-hit shutout and Rocori's offense exploded for 10 runs on 13 hits en route to a 10-0 victory over fellow Section 5-3A opponent Monticello.

In five innings on the mound, Emerson gave up one hit, no runs, walked none and struck out four.

Rocori's offense helped give Emerson run support in nearly every inning. The Spartans scored two runs in the second and third innings and added three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Jordan Barth went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, Max Fuchs went 3-for-3 with one run scored, Brandon Gill went 2-for-3 with one RBI, Dylan Tebrake and David Holbrook had one hit and one RBI each, Nick Penick had one RBI and William Huls went 1-for-4 with two runs scored for the Spartans.

Tommy Blackstone recorded the lone hit in the game for Monticello. Nick Zwack pitched four innings to take the loss. He gave up nine hits, seven runs, one walk and struck out five.

With the win, Rocori wraps up the 2017 regular season with a 13-7 record.

Next up for the Spartans is the first round of the Section 5-3A playoffs, which will begin on May 30. The opponent, game time and date will be announced on Friday. Check back at rocoribaseball.com for more updates.
