Rocori Holds Off Belle Plaine In Win


COLD SPRING -- The Rocori Spartans baseball team finished up their regular season home schedule with a win over Belle Plaine on Wednesday afternoon.

The Spartans topped the Tigers 5-4 in a nonconference game at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.

Rocori got off to a hot start in the game, scoring three runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Spartans then added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to carry a 5-0 lead late into the ballgame.

But Belle Plaine battled back in the final inning, scoring four runs in the top of the seventh. The Spartans, however, held off the Tigers to come away with the win.

Jordan Barth led Rocori at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI. William Huls and Matt Koshiol each went 2-for-3 with one run scored and Dalton Thelen scored two runs for the Spartans.

Brandon Gill pitched 5 2/3 innings on the hill to earn the win. He gave up two hits, no runs, five walks and struck out four. Chandler Bacon pitched one full inning in relief and Nick Penick pitched the final 1/3 of an inning to finish the game.

Carsen Ladd and Alec Ruud each had one hit and one RBI to lead Belle Plaine at the plate. Jared Miller took the loss, pitching the first three innings for the Tigers. Miller gave up three hits, three runs, two walks and struck out two.

With the win, Rocori improved its record to 12-7 on the season with one regular season game to go.

Next up for the Spartans is a matchup against fellow Section 5-3A opponent Monticello at 7 p.m. Thursday in Monticello. That game is the final regular season game for the Spartans.
