Spartans Take Two From Otters


COLD SPRING -- The Rocori Spartans baseball team took two from Fergus Falls on Tuesday night at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.

The Spartans won Game 1 of the doubleheader by a score of 5-2, before completing the Central Lakes Conference sweep with an 8-0 win in Game 2.

In Game 1, Rocori scored two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings en route to the win.

Dalton Thelen led the way for Rocori, going 3-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI. Dylan Tebrake had one RBI and Sam Young and William Huls each had two hits and one run scored in the game.

Dylan Tebrake got the win on the mound, pitching the first six innings. He gave up seven hits, no earned runs, no walks and struck out five. Nick Penick appeared in relief, pitching one inning.

Nathan Zierden went 2-for-3 with one RBI to lead Fergus Falls. Adam Swanson took the complete-game loss, giving up 11 hits, five runs (none earned), four walks and striking out six.

In Game 2, Rocori went off for eight runs on 12 hits and held Fergus Falls scoreless to complete the sweep of the doubleheader.

Jordan Barth went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI and William Huls went 4-for-4 with three runs scored to lead the Spartans. Matt Koshiol went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI, while Sam Young, David Holbrook, Dalton Thelen and Nick Penick each had one RBI.

Connor Schoborg pitched 3 2/3 innings to pick up the win for Rocori. He gave up five hits, no runs, one walk and struck out five. Eli Backes pitched two shutout innings in relief and William Huls pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings for the Spartans.

Six different players recorded one hit in the game for the Otters, who were outhit by the Spartans 12-6 in the game. Nathan Zierden pitched four innings to take the loss. He gave up nine hits, six runs, one walk and struck out five.

With the pair of wins, Rocori improved its record to 8-6 in the CLC and 9-6 overall on the season. The Spartans have now won seven of their last 10 games.

Next up for Rocori is a Central Lakes Conference matchup against St. Cloud Apollo on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud.
