Rocori Drops Two In Brainerd

BRAINERD -- The Rocori baseball team fell to Brainerd twice on Tuesday, April 18 in a doubleheader at Brainerd High School.

In Game 1, Brainerd scored three runs in each the first and the third innings to jump out in front of the Rocori. The Warriors ended up coming away with the 8-4 victory.

Grant Thomes led the way for Rocori, going 3-for-3 with one RBI. William Huls went 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI and Jordan Barth went 1-for-4 with one RBI for the Spartans, who outhit the Warriors 10-8 in the game.

Nick Penick took the loss on the mound for Rocori, pitching five innings. He gave up six hits, seven runs (one earned), no walks and struck out three. Eli Emerson came in to pitch one inning in relief, giving up two hits and one run.

Malachy Brink led the way for Brainerd in Game 1, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Bryce Flanagan got the win, pitching six innings, giving up 10 hits, four runs, no walks and striking out one.

In Game 2, there was a lot of offense in the first two innings. Rocori scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Brainerd answered back with five runs in the top of the second and went on to complete the Central Lakes Conference sweep with an 8-6 win.

William Huls went 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI to lead the Spartans in the second game. Dylan Tebrake, Matt Waletzko, Brandon Gill and Tylor Schroeder each added one RBI for Rocori.

Dylan Tebrake took the loss on the mound for Rocori. He pitched two innings, where he gave up nine hits, eight runs and two walks.

Flanagan went 1-for-4 with two RBI and Braydon Borg and Max Boran each went 2-for-4 with one RBI to lead the Warriors.

McCale Peterson pitched four innings in relief to get the win for Brainerd. He gave up two hits, two runs, four walks and struck out four.

With the pair of losses, Rocori falls to 1-3 in the Central Lakes Conference and 1-3 overall on the season.

Next up for Rocori is a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader against Sauk Rapids on Tuesday, April 25 at the Cold Spring Baseball Park.
